Background
In the late 1990s, the Dutch government recognised a paradox in its water sector: Dutch water expertise and products were internationally recognised, yet there was limited share in the global water market.
To address this, the Dutch Minister of Transport and Water Management joined forces with five other ministries (Foreign Affairs, Development Cooperation, Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment) to launch the PfW programme. The goal: to better coordinate international water-related efforts and improve the global positioning of the Dutch water sector.
In the following years, the PfW programme demonstrated its added value and enhanced cooperation across the water sector. Since 2022 and running until 2027, the Netherlands Enterprise and Development Agency (RVO) has been executing the fifth edition of PfW programme. By facilitating strategic planning and support in the early stages of innovation, the programme aims to contribute to systemic change for sustainable water management and infrastructure.
We look forward to welcoming you and celebrating the continued drive for impactful collaborations within the water sector for the next 25 years.
