Mainstreaming Nature-based Solutions: turning theory into practice
On the road towards implementation of Nature-based Solutions in Indonesia, embedding the concept into strategic policy guidelines is an important step to take. This requires understanding of the key guiding documents, actors and timelines. Upon request of the Indonesian government, the Asian Development Bank and the Netherlands provide expert support to foster the integration of NBS into the governing policy guidelines and implement it in an ongoing infrastructure investment project. This session aims to provide insights into the infrastructure planning process in Indonesia, and the importance of alignment with this process.
Session lead: Tom Wilms, Witteveen+Bos
Welang River Basin Transformation: participatory approaches to co-design and co-implement
Challenges like frequent urban floods, sedimentation, soil erosion and water distribution issues, witnessed in Welang, are also seen and replicated in other catchments throughout East Java and Java in general. Taking an integrated approach on water management, therefore has great potential for replication and scaling to other areas. This session takes you along in the outcomes, lessons learned and potential for follow-up of Welang Phase II, a project to co-design and co-implement integrated water management solutions.
Session lead: Maarten Onneweer, AidEnvironment
Lowland development and irrigation in Dadahup: knowledge exchange for the future water managers
Production from irrigated lowland areas in Indonesia is of key importance to reach food independence – a national priority. Among others, inadequate soil and water management prevent existing lowland schemes to not reach their maximum potential. Additionally, core expertise on lowland development – both in NL and IND – is mostly available with older experts. As part of Phase II of the Collaboration for Lowland Development, this session elaborates on the knowledge exchange efforts to capture and transfer valuable lowland expertise to the future water managers.
Session lead: Sur Suryadi, IHE Delft
