This October, COP17 of the Convention on Biological Diversity will take place in Yerevan, Armenia. As the first Biodiversity COP to include a Global Review, the COP will focus on progress, monitoring and implementation. Beside this central theme of the COP, The Netherlands pavilion will also focus on themes such as Biodiversity Finance and the Water-Biodiversity-Food nexus.

The Netherlands Pavilion

Building on the success of COP16, we are pleased to welcome you back to the Netherlands Pavilion – a platform for knowledge exchange, co-creation, and collaboration between governments, businesses, knowledge institutions, NGOs, and international stakeholders. The programme of the Netherlands Pavilion will be coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Partners for Water.

The Netherlands Pavilion is open to all COP17 participants. Join us and:

  • Engage with experts on topics such as biodiversity finance, sustainable food systems, and/or water stewardship.
  • Connect with key stakeholders from government, business, academia, and civil society.
  • Build partnerships and join a community of frontrunners driving global change.

Host a session at the Netherlands Pavilion

Are you working on an inspiring project or initiative that you would like to showcase? Or are you planning to launch a new initiative or commitment at COP17? We invite organisations to propose and host a session at the Netherlands Pavillion.
Sessions should contribute to a long-term vision for biodiversity protection or restoration and generate meaningful impact beyond COP. Organisers must hold the necessary accreditation and commit to sharing session materials, insights, and outcomes with a wider audience through us. . Proposed sessions should address one or more of the following focus themes:

  • Mobilising finance for biodiversity
  • Monitoring, review, and follow-up actions on the global review
  • The nexus of biodiversity, climate, food systems, and/or water
  • Mainstreaming biodiversity
  • Nature-based Solutions

Sessions will last 45 to 90 minutes and should preferably be organised in collaboration between at least two partners. They should be interactive, visually engaging and substantive/content-rich.

Beside knowledge-sharing and showcasing best practices, we are looking for sessions that help generate further impact and action beyond COP17. Sessions should therefore be interactive, visually engaging and substantive/content-rich.

We specifically encourage the organisation of sessions that launch new international initiatives, commitments and collaborations. In this context, the pavilion will serve as a location for various state- and other actors to commit to said initiatives.

We also encourage sessions that incorporate Indigenous and local knowledge and co-creation with local communities.

Please note that:

  • Session organisers must be accredited to attend COP
  • Session materials and key insights should be suitable for wider sharing after the event
